BASS GUITAR

Juan

Ortiz

Juan Ortiz has been laying down solid bass grooves for over 40 years, bringing a deep love of classic rock and blues to every performance. A self-taught musician, Juan’s inspiration began with Meet the Beatles, the album that first sparked his passion for playing music. His influences span across the legendary bassists of rock and blues—too many to name, but all of them shaping his rock-solid style.

When Petty and Friends was just an idea, it was Juan who made the calls that set things in motion. Reaching out to longtime friends and trusted musicians like Victor Takehara, he helped assemble a lineup that not only plays at a high level but also shares the same commitment to professionalism, energy, and musicianship. For Juan, the best part of being in the band is knowing that every member shows up ready—learning their parts, bringing positive energy, and doing whatever it takes to make the band the best it can be.

On stage, Juan’s playing isn’t just about holding down the low end—it’s about driving the music forward with precision and passion. He’s got a simple goal for every performance: to sound as good as possible, every time. Whether locking in with Phil Mitchell’s drums or adding depth to the band’s signature sound, Juan’s bass lines bring the pulse that gets people moving. And that’s exactly what he hopes audiences take away—great music and a reason to dance!
